OLDER AMERICANS MONTH Among all client households with at least one member 65 or older, 28.7 percent indicated that they have had to choose between food and medical care and 30.8 percent had to choose between paying for food or heat/utilities. Elderly households are much less likely to receive food stamps than non-elderly households, even when expected benefits are roughly the same.
