Community Cupboard

Community Cupboard allows our member agencies to directly refer clients to this “mom & pop” style grocery store for food assistance. Those referred clients can shop for everything their family needs including: fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, canned food, cereal, spices, flour, sugar, dairy products, cleaning supplies, paper goods, personal hygiene products, vitamins, and more.

Clients shop by weight allowances determined by the referring agency. For some perspective: one hundred pounds roughly equals a heaping grocery cart full of food. This shopping experience allows families to choose the food they want and need with dignity in a clean, friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere.

The CHFB Community Cupboard program has been used as a model for other food banks around the country.

Community Cupboard FAQ

The Community Cupboard program is available to clients who are referred by partner nonprofit agencies of Community Harvest Food Bank. Agencies issue a voucher to families in need based on their program guidelines.

Community Harvest partners with more than 200 nonprofit agencies in the nine-county region that participate in the voucher program. We encourage clients interested in the Community Cupboard program to call churches and/or human service agencies in the area where they live to ask if the agency participates in the Community Harvest voucher program.

Of course! Community Cupboard is just one of many programs offered by Community Harvest Food Bank. Although Community Cupboard is a referral-only program, we have programs that are open to anyone in need, regardless of whether or not you have a voucher. Two of our most popular programs include the Farm Wagon mobile pantry and Saturday Helping Hands distribution, which are open to anyone in need with no sign-up required.

Community Harvest partners with nonprofit organizations to serve individuals and families in need through the Community Cupboard program. For more information on how to sign up as a member agency at no cost, please call Community Harvest Agency Services at (260) 447-3696.
